Plan to establish 200 SHSs on course

A Deputy Minister of Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has stated that the government’s plan to establish 200 day senior high schools (SHSs) is on course.

He said the decision was no more a political promise because it was a real plan, aimed at improving access to senior high school education.

Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa was addressing the chiefs and people of Adaklu Traditional Area during the inspection and handing over of 25 acres for the construction of an SHS in the Adaklu Constituency.

The project is estimated at GHC11million and comprises a four-storey block of 24 classrooms, eight unit bungalows for teachers, headmaster’s bungalow, a canteen, a wall and boreholes, all expected to be executed within 15 months.

The two contractors to construct the new SHS are Sabah Construction Limited and MacCoby Limited, with Conpro Limited as the consultant.

According to Mr Ablakwa, the Adaklu Constituency was among 23 constituencies out of the 275 in the country to benefit from the programme.

He said the project was very important to the government and advised the contractors to execute it on schedule, because funding would not be a problem since funds had been deposited at the National Investment Bank (NIB) for it.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Adaklu Constituency, Mr Kwame Agbodza, procured a pick-up vehicle for the Adaklu Senior High School to facilitate its smooth operation.

The Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Mr Francis Ganyaglo, said the project was another fulfilment of the government’s promise to the people and appealed to the contractors to employ people in the community for the job.

He announced that 100 acres had been acquired near Adaklu for the construction of a sports stadium, adding that an estate development project was also in the offing in the area.

In his response, a senior divisional Chief of Adaklu, Togbe Agbobada, said the people of Adaklu treasured the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in their hearts because it was under the late Professor Mills that Adaklu was uplifted to its present status as a district as well as a constituency.
