Mango Mangifera Indica

MANGO IS A tropical fruit, and it has been in existence from time immemorial. Globally, researchers have continued to investigate the usefulness of Mango to mankind.

They have found out that mango extracts can control blood sugar, relieve diarrhea, fever, pain, kill malaria parasite and infectious disease agent such as staphylococcus aureus.

Mango as botanically  known (mangifera indica) as a plant  or tree has medicinal values that ranges from its fruit extract, leaf, stem bark extract, dried mango flower and extract of unripe fruits and of bark stem and leaves have shown antibiotic activity.

Also, the leaf decoction is taken as a remedy for chest complaints, diabetes and hypertension.

Therefore, it is now glaring that mango is a fruit that we should not be unfamiliar with because the tannin it contains have been shown to serve as astringent in cases of diarrhea, chronic dysentery, catarrh  of the bladder and chronic urethritis resulting from gonorrhea.

Mango is natural curative plant without any side effects. Who does not like mango? Many of us have found memories of our childhood like getting to stone the mango tree for fresh raw mangoes, playing in mango groves etc. But how many of us know about the medicinal values of this tasty fruit?

In India, parents used to force their kids to brush their teeth with tender mango leaf and a pinch of salt granules. This is supposed to clean the germs and keep the mouth fresh and odourless.

Bleeding Gums: The tender leave3s of mango are chewed to avoid bleeding in the gums; and also reduce pain in the tooth.

Diabetics: Soak few tender leaves in water overnight and drink the water. This is supposed to help patents with diabetes.

Constipation: Eat a piece of raw sour mango with salt and honey, to overcome loose motion, constipation and indigestion.

Jaundice: Eat raw mango pieces with black pepper and honey to avoid jaundice and other diseases related to stomach and liver.

Thirst & Sun Stroke: Eat mango with salt to overcome thirst and the reduction of the effects of sun stroke during summer.

Blood Circulation: Raw mangoes contain more Vitamin C and B compared to ripe mangoes. It is advisable to eat one raw mango a day for better blood circulation during the mango season. It also helps to overcome nervous disorders and helps in improving memory.

Appetizer: Mangoes that have ripened on the tree are tasty and improve appetite.

Energy Booster: One bowl of mango juice with a pinch of pepper serves as energy source to the body, increases inner glow of the skin and acts as diuretic. It also improves eye sight and immune power of the body.

Piles (Kookoo): Finely ground Mango seeds mixed with buttermilk taken twice a day helps people with piles and such disorders.

General Health:  During the mango season, drink a cup of milk after eating one ripe mango. The sugar of mango and protein in the milk helps improving overall health.
