Dangme West Holds Pre-Flooding Exercises

THE DANGME West District of the Greater Accra Region are up to the task in the fight against flooding which affects most rural areas annually during each rainy season.

The district has mobilized volunteers to undertake spirited clean-up exercises around flood prone areas in various parts of the district in readiness for the rains.

The Volunteers, inspired by Mr. Ebenezer Ajakli, District Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), weeded and de-silted choked gutters to make way for excess waters that may tend to flood communities within the district.

Lower Dodowa saw quite a number of residents joining the volunteers in the exercise which was aimed at allowing free flow of rain water in the event of heavy rains.

Speaking to Wojaku after the exercise last weekend, Mr. Ajakli explained, “We are leading and encouraging residents to be conscious of disasters by rains or storms in advance so that life and property could be adequately protected.”

A supervisory team including this Reporter visited towns in the district where similar exercises were on-gong. These include Ayikuma, Afienya, Odumase, Prampram and Ningo.
