Another Demolition Exercise Renders 100s Homeless

Alfred-VanderpuijeA DEMOLITION exercise along the railway area at Avenor in the Greater Accra region has rendered hundreds homeless.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly led a team of engineers to demolish wooden structures along the railway at the area.

The structures were pulled down as part of the Assembly’s efforts to demolish all illegal settlements in the capital.

A resident who had been affected by the demolition said the AMA failed to give them ample time to relocate before the demolition exercise.

“We are all Ghanaians, they have to inform us to pack our things but they did not inform us early and they suddenly came to demolish our structures.”

“It will be difficult for us. As of now, we do not know where to go. We know the structures we have put up are illegal but they should have informed us ahead of time so we prepare,” another complained.

Demolition ExerciseThis is not the first time the AMA has demolished structures. It earlier demolished structures from the Graphic Road section to Avenor and Circle as well as others at the Old Fadama area.

Among the structures were some garages and structures which served as homes to residents.
