A RENOWNED man of God in Accra says he would embark on a one-man demonstration if the Electoral Commission (EC) fails to compile a new credible voters register to be used for the 2016 general elections.
The founder and leader of Glorious Word Ministry International, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah says his decision to embark on a one-man demonstration to demand a compilation of a new voters roll is as a result of a revelation from God to him that Ghana would descend into the abyss if a new voters register is not compiled.
“I don’t support any party, but this country will turn upside down if the voter register is not changed. I will personally hit the street and protest to get it done,” he said.
Since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) began this campaign for a new voters register, several other groups and individuals have added their voices to the call including pro-opposition group, Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) which has embarked on a demonstration to press home their demand.
They have held several symposia and press conferences as well as visiting various opinion leaders for them to add their voices to their call.
Earlier, the Catholic Bishops Conference opined that it favours the call for a new register if evidence presented by the NPP is found to be true.
Ghana’s only surviving former Presidents, Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor have also added their voices to the call for a new voters register.
Former President Rawlings said although 2016 is going to be a challenging electoral process, the “stress can be minimized” if various stakeholders ensure the creation of a credible voters register.
President Kufuor have also urged the EC to heed to the cries of Ghanaians and do what would favour the citizenry.
The controversial man of God, speaking on Accra-based Okay FM on Friday said he was very sure of what he “saw in the spirit” and hence has advised the EC not to wait till the last minute.
“What will happen if EC change the voter register? Those opposing are making me believe that they have some interest in it if it’s not changed. There are some people working behind and trying hard to stop the decision, but I will personally not allow that to happen.
“I will go on demonstration to have this issue meet a good course, and it will be pointless if EC turns it back on us,” he said.
