The 70-year-old who led the Phobians to their continental titles passed away early Tuesday morning after his protracted battle with cancer.
Hearts are incidentally facing Esperance in the first leg CAF Confederation Cup tie in Tunis on Sunday – the same club Jones Attuquayefio led his talented team to beat in clinching the 2000 CAF Champions League.
Hearts coach Herbert Addo has been urging his team to go all out in securing a resounding result to honour the memory of the departed legendary trainer.
“The coach assembled the team in the conference room to watch a footage of an Esperance game after which he told the players that they should play in honour of the memory of Jones Attuquayefio,” Hearts News Editor Opare Addo who traveled with the team said.
“It is one thing that is motivating the team and the players want to also write their names in the history of the club.”
Hearts who go into the game as underdogs hope to secure a result that will ensure they remain in the tie by the time they host the Tunisian giants in the return encounter on June 7.
